Mud
By Maria Irene Fornes
Set in a dirty backwater small-town, Mud tells the story of a woman aspiring to escape poverty through education. In order to escape her situation she must first free herself from men who rely upon her for their survival: her brother and lover who keep her trapped in a bizarre love/hate triangle.
Framed as a memory play in which Mae brings the audience along with her to reexamine the moments of her life and death through snapshot tableau images. Staged in Eugene's Pub at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre Center– a small one room log cabin where a large stone hearth looms as an ever-present reminder of the entrapment of women as the centerpiece of the home.
